It’s TT week and hopefully we have a glorious Manx summer ahead of us. It was clear from recent Liquor Licensing Courts that this year will see a number of outdoor events. Whether its TT festivities or a summer wedding, event planners have been busily filing their applications for occasional licenses. If you are planning to have music or dancing at an event this summer, you must attend the Isle of Man Licensing Court to obtain an occasional licence. Although experienced individuals in the licensing trade often make these applications, the Deputy High Bailiff had some words of warning for those who were planning to make their applications without seeking legal advice.
Over the last few Licensing Courts the standard of applications seem to be decreasing in quality. The Deputy High Bailiff stressed that obtaining legal advice over the application process is the safest way to ensure that your event goes to plan and that the application forms and supporting documentation are completed correctly. The Court also reminded applicants that outdoor events must comply not only with regulations relating to liquor and music and dancing but also health and safety regulations requiring a visit from the Environmental Health Office.
